Into the Jungle: A Father-Son Adventure in Belize

Not all trips are about slowing down. Some are about adventure, excitement, and connection, which is exactly what Eric and Cash experienced on their recent journey to Belize!

They stayed at an all-inclusive adventure lodge tucked deep in the heart of the Belizean jungle. The kind of place where the air smells like fresh rain, where hammocks sway in the breeze and days begin with tropical fruit, a hot cup of coffee, and the bustling energy of adventurers ready to go head-to-head with nature.

This wasn’t a sit-by-the-pool kind of trip. Although they did that. This was a let’s do something we’ll talk about for years kind of trip.

Ruins, Rappelling, and Relationship

Each day brought something unforgettable, and often, a little wild.

They hiked through a dense forest to rappel down the 300 foot “black hole” cliff into the mouth of a limestone sinkhole, laughing and yelling the whole way down, adrenaline meeting awe in equal measure.

Then they experienced a cave waterfalls expedition, a guided tour through the fascinating sacred caverns once used by the Maya for spiritual ceremonies. They swam through underground rivers, scrambled over rock formations, and climbed waterfalls while their headlamp beams helped them catch sight of crystal-coated stalactites and geometric designs carved over the centuries by water seeking a way out. It was a true glimpse into another world.

Finally, there was an excursion to explore the ancient Mayan ruins of Xunantunich and Cahal Pech, where they climbed to the top of the temples and royal palaces, standing together, quiet for a moment, overlooking the forest canopy and excavation sites below while considering the immense successes and tragic failures of a long-lost civilization.

Every evening, they returned to the lodge and shared stories with other travelers while lounging around the pool and sharing family-style meals.

They were challenged. They were in it together. They were strengthening bonds with each other and the adventurers they met along the way. And that, really, was the point.

Why It Mattered

Eric didn’t choose Belize just for the bucket-list adventure (though that part was unforgettable). He chose it because Cash is growing up fast. Because the time for this kind of trip with just the two of them and no distractions felt right now.

He wanted space for real conversation. For silliness. For watching Cash light up with curiosity and courage. He wanted to give him a memory that communicated I see who you’re becoming, and I love being here to watch it happen.

He wanted time that mattered.
